Reasons To Dance

If you see me walking in the path of a car, warn me. If a car swerves my way; push me or warn me. If I am walking in a snake’s path, tell me. If a worm falls on back , please take it off because I am terrified of them. If a storm is about to hit, tell me so that I can prepare. If you know my destination and you know the way and I am headed the wrong way, show me the right way. If you see anything that can potentially harm me, please tell me. I want to know and I would be forever grateful that you cared.

We do it all the time from day-to-day, why because we care about each other. I have a dear friend that keeps me up on everything from pop-up sales to traffic ahead so that I can make a detour. I believe she does it because she considers me a friend and that is the reason I do it for others.

If we think about it,  some of us actually do the same for strangers. If we are in a store and see someone about to drop cash or credit card, we immediately warn them. Why do we do it? We do it because we care and don’t want to them to lose their funds. When it is done, I am sure they are grateful.

Because of Jesus we have a book of warnings and should be forever grateful. It doesn’t always feel good but it is good for us and gave it in hopes of sparing us eternal suffering.

This post was inspired by a conversation between my husband and I. I had asked him a question and I told him I needed an honest answer, figuratively speaking because I trusted him to be honest because he’s always been honest even if it made me raise a brow.

This time he was reluctant, so I had to ask again. His response to me was, “if I tell you the truth you will get upset with me.”

I immediately stopped and I thought about what he had said. I asked myself, “do I really get upset when he tells me the truth?

This concerned me because I had to ask myself, “do you know what you really want Lennie? Do you want the truth or do you want him to tell you what you want to hear?”

The truth sometimes hurts but it’s good for us. It’s like medicine on open womb; it may burn when applied but it is necessary  healing.

Let’s look at it this way, the bible tells us ”

  • For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires. Hebrews 4:12.
  • All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for instruction, for conviction, for correction, and for training in righteousness,  so that the man of God may be complete, fully for every good word. 2 Timothy 3:17

If this is the case and it is, why did I get offended when he told me the truth. I had asked him more than once to be honest.

I believe if randomly asked if I respected my husband’s opinion, I would have explicitly said yes, but the burden of proof lied with me. I had to wonder, “do you really know what you want Lennie? Do you respect his opinion only if it appeases you? Do you want him to say what you want to hear or do you want the truth?”

If we only want to hear what we want, then we are not looking for honesty; we are looking for gratification and that will lead to destruction.  Pacifying is for babies, but that’s what we enjoy most times because it’s satisfying.  Here is a familiar proverb though it relates to a parent and a child, I believe we can apply it to us as well, “Punish them with the rod and save them from death, Proverbs 23:14.

I say, if you find me walking contrary to The Word, tell me. If I get offended, don’t get offended; you take heed to this“And if anyone will not welcome you or heed your words, shake the dust off your feet when you leave that home or town, Mathew 10:15.

It is not our job to appease; we have to love as He did and declare as He did:

Say to them, ‘As I live!’ declares the Lord GOD, ‘I take no pleasure in the death of the wicked, but rather that the wicked turn from his way and live. Turn back, turn back from your evil ways! Why then will you die, O house of Israel?’ Ezekiel 33:11.
